Traditional Communications is Not Enough

Monday, October 2nd, 2006 by John Mallen

The old way is changing! Following a meeting today Adam Grose, a good friend and associate and Cynthia Brown, founder of American Police Beat, I left realizing that after an extensive discussion of how to bring nuclear detection technology to more law-enforcement agencies, the turf we covered only touched on traditional advertising and PR!

Sure the publisher, Cynthia, spoke about advertising, and me, the PR guy in the group talked very little about publicity. Radiation detection equipment is crucial to help detect and deflect an almost unthinkable possibility in this or any country. Adam is working for Thermo Electron which has remarkable technology for detecting radiation.

Here we are in an era where digital communications moves at screaming speed, but the elements needed to bring a crucial and complex message to law-enforcement leaders require timeless elements in communications and public relations:  trust, education, accurate information and understanding founded on experience. Thus, in addition to digital messaging and targeted advertising, forums that connect personally with leaders in the field may be crucial as well.
